Description
This design for a car-mounted bicycle rack was created by me in 2021. The primary requirements for this design are (1) reduced drag while traveling long distances, and (2) easy mounting and removal. Although I designed it for my Tesla Model Y, it will probably work on other cars, especially if the strut that goes into the 2" receiver is lengthened. The design requires fork mount brackets to be purchased (not shown in the model) and the front wheels stored inside the car. It is also intended that one of the bike pedals be removed and one of the handlebars be rotated. These compromises allow the bikes to sit very close to the car for reduced wind drag. I offer it as a concept to be improved, modified, or fabricated as is. The features in Strut4 that relate to the removable handle might need to be adjusted to miss front chainwheels on some bikes. I don't use the handle at all since my bikes are lightweight and the handle doesn't add much functionality when mounting and dismounting the rack to the car. I do not intend to be compensated for this design, but I do expect that if anyone benefits from it, they donate generously to either Ujamaa Place (https://ujamaaplace.org/) or Honor the Earth (https://www.honorearth.org/). If those organizations no longer exist, donate to the United Nations (https://www.un.org/).Peter Truittptruitt@protonmail.comhttps://muckrack.com/peter-truitt/articleshttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP3r5IN8wSZODc8HtfaucKw
