Description
This model demonstrates a different technique for creating a weldment without using a 3D sketch or a collection of 2D sketches. This multi-body part is called a Cubic Trefoil Knot. It is a 3D-golygon (knotted golygon). Instead of using standard weldment structural members, the building blocks are created then patterned. Finally the blocks are assembled using the "Move/Copy Body" command with the "Constraint" option.

Description
This part is an example of hybrid modeling techniques where geometry is created using a combination of solid and surface body features. It starts with some solid extrusion and cuts. Then surface features are used to create the front grill geometry and so on. The end result will be a multibody part with three distinct bodies.

The Normal Cut option is used to extrude a cut through a sheet metal bend to create geometry that will be correctly elongated when the part is flattened. It is critical to know that leaving Normal Cut disabled would create a part that, though it looks OK in SolidWorks, will actually interfere with mating components when the real part is fabricated from the flat pattern.

Description
The main body dimensions for the width and height change between configurations. The rear corner of the box is ripped so the part can be unfolded. Equations are used to insure that the dimensions of the Bottom-Tab will update correctly if the thickness of the material changes. An edge flange is used to create the Tab that will be glued to complete the retail box. The Break-Corner allows us to change from a chamfer to a fillet without having to delete and recreate anything.

Description
This wooden ornament is made of multiple bodies patterned and slightly rotated to give a checkerboard appearance. A circular pattern creates the first layer or level. A linear pattern is then used to stack up the layers before they are all cut into shape. There is one example of the newer circular profile sweep function which saves times by eliminating the need to create a circle sketch.Other features in the model include: extrude, reference axis and a cut revolve. Download this file to learn more about patterns, circular profile sweeps and the move/copy body command.

This assembly was designed help provide uniform lighting for photographic purposes. The main plank part has examples of global variables and equations. It is also has an example of an "in context" cut. There is an example of a Circular Component Pattern in the assembly. Download this part to see the assembly created in SOLIDWORKS and then see the finished product.
