AVX offers the 12 way mini I/O connector as a standard product. The SMT socket is designed to be mounted on a PCB and housed within a portable device. The plug is designed for cable termination with dual row contact tails which will accept a small transition PCB. Plugs can be supplied as connectors or as an overmolded assembly. The contacts are in a single row on 0.50mm pitch.

Wire-to-Wire connectors have been used in the industrial market for years with traditional 2-Piece (plug and socket) connector systems which require crimp and poke wire terminations to connect electrical or electronic components. In the general wiring market (2-3 wires) there are a number of connector styles available, however, they are limited in sizes, expanded wire gauges and the ability to reuse them when repair or replacement is needed. Based on the existing success of “Poke-Home” wire-to-board connectors, AVX has developed a new family of wire-to-wire connectors to meet the cost, flexibility and ease-of-use targets in industrial wiring applications. - The 9286 series of Junction Box connectors provide a high spring force Beryllium Copper contact system that uses simple push button activation to insert and remove individual stripped wires in the connection process. There is a forward and aft shrouded (to prevent accidental activation) push button for each wire connection that can be operated individually or simultaneously with a simple plastic tool or ball point pen tip. This connector family has been designed to bring a single wire in and then have multiple output (bus structure) wires of the same power or signal. Four, Six or Eight wires can be electrically connected together in a single connector body which will support any combination of wire gauges from 18AWG up to 26 AWG. Wires can be removed or replaced up to 5 times so there is no need to replace the connector in a new installation.

Designers for ruggedized connectors to meet harsh environments continue to look for new products which will reduce size and cost without jeopardizing performance. The new Ultra-Low Profile (ULP) compression contact from AVX surface mounts to a PCB and provides a reliable compression connection to the mating board, even under extreme shock and vibration applications. With over 20 years of 1-Piece compression contact experience, this innovative contact offers full connector performance functionality at the individual contact level. Thus, allowing single contacts to be placed in any location or position on a PCB. - The high force beryllium copper contact is gold plated to maximize reliability and signal integrity. The current offering has two contacts with nominal heights of 1.0mm and 1.5mm. Add in the “Z” axis tolerance range and the compressed height covers 0.75mm up to 1.75mm. The contacts are supplied in tape and reel for easy SMT placement.

AVX has been leading the industry with reliable Board-to-Board (BTB) compression connectors for commercial, medical and harsh industrial applications, obtaining the very first contact patent in the early 1990’s. The broad range of connectors offers both signal contacts which support 1 Amp/contact up to 40 position as well as low pin count (LPC) power contacts up to 3 Amps/contact. - The newest addition is the Ultra Low Profile (ULP) power connector that supports a 1.3mm compressed height, the lowest on the market. Gold plated Beryllium Copper (BeCu) contacts offers the most reliable and resilient contact performance in this miniature package. The sweeping contact design offers 0.7mm deflection range, long contact wipe and in excess of 40 grams of contact force at minimum operating deflection. All combined, this connector is rated at an unbelievable 5000 mating cycles for mechanical endurance.

The newest product in AVX’s Interconnect family of battery connectors saves 50% in volume over the initial 9155 series compression connectors as illustrated in the photograph. These connectors are rated at a full 3 amps per contact on 2.5mm centers. Sizes range from 2 positions through 5 positions and are end to end stackable.

The standard battery connector is specifically designed for mobile equipment. - The connectors are available in 3, 4 and 5 contact positions all on a 2.50mm pitch. The insulator height provides a 3mm spacing, with various contact nose heights from 1.20mm to 2.60mm, to provide spacing options to the end user. - All contacts are stamped and are rated to 3A, with Gold plating. Parts are supplied in tape and reel for automatic pick and place. Optional retaining brackets are available to provide greater strength when connected to the PCB. - Whatever your requirements, the 9155 series Battery Connector can also be customized to suit your applications.

The 917X series of surface mount Insulation Displacement Connectors (IDC) were developed to meet the harsh automotive and industrial market applications for connecting individual wires directly to a PCB ranging from 14 AWG to 28 AWG. This industry proven contact system has been tested to automotive levels of shock, vibration, and temperature cycling to prove their reliability and robustness. The simplicity of inserting a wire into the connector with a small tool allows a wide range of devices to be connected to the PCB without soldering. In SSL applications specifically, these connectors are used to bring power and signal onto the PCB or are used to daisy chain multiple boards together in a long string. While the IDC contact provides a gas-tight connection to conductor of the wire, the housing has been designed to grab the insulation of the wire to provide a positive strain relief even in the harshest conditions. In case of repair, the wires can be removed and replace up to three times. - The 9175 series accepts 26 AWG to 28 AWG wires with an insulation diameter ranging from 0.7mm to 1.0mm. These single contact connectors support a 1 amp current rating and have a split SMT tail design to provide maximum stability on the PCB. Available in a 2p and 3p configuration, these connectors can be end stackable for higher pin counts.

The new 9276 series connector provides a quick and reliable wire-to-board termination in a sleek 2.5mm pitch SMT package for a broad range of industrial and commercial markets. With almost every product on the market today having to deal with a small number of discrete wires to connect components to a board, the 9276 series connectors meets this challenge by simply stripping the wire and inserting them into the connector. This makes the connector very termination friendly within the factory as well as in the field by electrical installers. Developed for harsh industrial and Solid State Lighting (SSL) applications, the connector was designed with a high spring force Beryllium Copper upper spring contact to accept a wide range (18-26 AWG solid or stranded) of wire to meet multiple applications with a single connector. By incorporating a dual contact design we were able to maximize current rating (6 Amps) and minimize PCB space. For example, the 4p connector has a footprint of 90 sq-mm while competing products are 160 sq-mm. The dual-contact design also provides two solder points for each wire eliminating the need for external anchor tabs. AVX provides a small insertion / extraction tool which will allow the wires to easily be replaced up to 5 times.

An I/O interconnect system designed for portable equipment. - AVX offers this plug and socket reduced size system as a standard product. The fixed SMT socket is designed to be mounted on a PCB and housed within a portable device. The plug is designed for cable termination with options of single (8 contacts) and dual row (16 contacts) configurations. Connectros are available individually or AVX can provide overmolded cable assemblies.termination. Connectros have 16 contacts in two rows on 1.25mm pitch with a rating of 1 amp per contact.

The 9157 series was specifically designed for ruggedized portable equipment. - The SMT socket is designed to be housed within the portable device. - The plug/cover connector has sprung contacts and is designed for termination to accessory equipment. The connector is designed to house fifteen signal contacts on a 1mm pitch rated at 1.5A. There is the option to include a switching RF coax. - A cradle SMT plug connector for docking applications is also available as standard and has the option of including a SMT RF coax.
