Description
Just in time for summer this sunscreen bottle goes over solid and surfaces body features to create the geometry. This model has different examples of patterns with varying geometry including variable patterns that use Pattern Tables to import and export data from Excel. In this example, the side grip geometry changes length as it is patterned. Two linear patterns with varied instances are also included to show different pattern techniques for non-uniform patterns. This part also goes over surface features including surface boundaries, revolved surfaces, extruded surfaces, surface knits, surface trims and one ruled surface. There several cuts with surface using offset surfaces and there is easy to understand example of a replace face. There are multiple examples of split line curves and the delete face command. One split line curve uses the silhouette option to help create a parting line draft.Other features include a multi-thickness shell, a solid sweep and multiple mirrors. Description
This 50's style hood ornament is a challenging part that has only a handful of flat surfaces. It was constructed mostly using surface features. There are only four extruded bosses in the entire part and three of those are bolts. Several advanced features are used to create this model including some rarely used features. The list of features includes: Surface Lofts, Surface Boundaries, Ruled Surfaces, Filled Surfaces, Face Fillet, Split Line and Projected Curves, Delete Face and Move Face. This part takes advantage of symmetry to help speed up the process by creating only the right half of the part and then mirroring it about the Right Plane. Download this file to see how to use surface modeling to create more advanced geometry.

Description
This familiar office accessory shows a great mix of features and techniques. The multi-body part has some simple sheet metal features and introduces some of the techniques of creating mold tooling. There are also a few examples of hybrid modeling using solid and surface features to create some of the geometry. The features included in the staple remover part include: revolve, boundary surfaces, trim surface, extend surface, knit surface, edge flange, combine, move/copy body, split line curves and many examples of the delete face command. Also included in the model are examples of the manual draft feature. There are two configurations, one as the completed staple remover and the other with the plastic mold tooling. The part also includes some of the automated mold features including parting line, parting surface and tooling split. Download this file to learn more about surface modeling and making mold tooling using "built in" SOLIDWORKS features.

Description
This is a fully detailed production part with over a hundred features. Learn about how to use a Layout sketch to plan your work and work your plan. Many techniques are demonstrated in this model. Multi-body part design creates three solids representing the different moving parts of the dial. Hybrid modeling is shown with surface geometry being used to cut solid model bodies. There are examples of surface modeling including: cuts with surfaces, surface lofts, filled surfaces, surface revolves, offset surfaces and surface untrims. Other more rare solid features include: helical threads, revolve and swept cuts, a thin cut, and combines using the subtract option. Circular patterns help create several multi-feature patterns. Download this part to learn about using Layout sketches and Hybrid Modeling.

Description
This standard lock illustrates several useful SOLIDWORKS techniques. The bitting sequence of the lock is set with variables in the key part. These numeric values determine the height of the key at each station. A standard station cut is defined, and derived sketches are placed with equations to determine the profile of the key. When the bitting sequence is changed in the key the assembly will update with new configurations for each of the key pins. This is done through a design table. Once the key has been changed edit the design table and accept the new (automatically generated) values to update the assembly. An ‘if’ statement in the BOM keeps configuration data display to a manageable level. The spring used in this lock features tightly wound, smaller diameter ends. Construction geometry allows a smooth blend between the sections, with a curvature continuous transition in both diameter and pitch. The key incorporates the use of a sketch picture and has examples of swept cuts, derived sketches, Delete Face and Replace Face. The spring has multiple helices and a composite curve to create the helical sweep. All features include comments.
